My Coffee Break #028
Based on research, children ask on average 250 questions per day while adults ask only 20.
This simple insight from our life can prove how our learning curve starts diminishing from childhood to adulthood.
But simply asking 100 questions a day from tomorrow won't make you anyone special.
If you track the questions you ask in a day; you'll see something like this.
30% of your questions are not even a question (more like a statement)
30% of the questions are to test someone (because you're too judgy and defensive)
20% of the time, you ask closed questions
15% of the time, you ask unrelated questions
5% of them are somewhat open questions
When the questions are not driven by curiosity, we don't have anything to learn from them. When we question with pre-judgment and being close-minded, we fail to listen to what others have to offer.
Questions are one of the most powerful tools we have at our disposal. How we practice consciously to ask great questions can increase the desired outcome and push our learning curve forward.
When was the last time you heard or asked a great question? How transformative was it? What ignited from that question that you considered valuable?
I would love to hear your reflections on this.
